I MISS FASHION.

Shanghai is just not that fashionable. I'm trying to remember what GOOD looks like. Kinda like this:

MUSIC.

So dreamy. Go get it.

GRILL ON 56.

So, one thing I really suck at here is knowing how much food I'm getting when I'm ordering at a restaurant. There is NO indication on the menu whatsoever, plus they always bring you extra dishes (veggies and fruit mostly) with your order. Anyway... We had dinner at Grill on 56 @ Jin Mao / Grand Hyatt a few days ago and I thought I would be smart to just order a few oysters as a starter. This is what I got:

Huge ...plate? of oysters. It literally took up all the free space on our table.

Anyway, dining here is always a pleasant experience..
We had dessert in the Patio lounge. Mom and I shared this strawberry dessert for two:

Strawberry flavoured macarons, strawberry popsicles, fresh strawberries, strawberry sponge cake, strawberry sorbet, strawberry flavoured chewy candy, chocolate dipped strawberries. Phew.

HUANGSHAN.

In the past 24 hours, I have:

- Only consumed walnuts, almonds, pineapple, mango, and rabbit

- Experienced cold like NEVER before

- NOT slept due to my dad snoring and a 10 degree celsius hotel bedroom

- Actually been worried my feet were going to turn black because they were so cold

- Been in a car crash (ironically, not on the icy roads near Huangshan, but five minutes from our apartment in Shanghai)

- Looked like hell

Our trip to Huangshan was a massive failure. I can't express how happy I am to be back in Shanghai one day earlier. Screw nature and hiking and eating wild animals, I'M HITTING THE MALL TOMORROW! SALE'S ON, BIATCHES.

ps. OLLIE! You win something cool, I promise. You'll see. & thanks for musiktips!

pps. Happy Chinese New Year!

In China, you look down to see the fireworks, not up.

NANXIANG MANTOU DIAN.

Love love love the xiaolongbao here. Yesterday was my third time.

Only just noticed this in the menu though, hihi:

???

(The binoculars remind me of Wall-E!)

BLADERUNNER.

It's pretty here at night.

THE JOURNEY OF SACKBOY.

Kvarnskogsvägen, Sollentuna, Sweden.

Business lounge, Arlanda Airport, Sweden.

Kempinski Hotel Airport, Munich.

Sackboy really enjoyed watching Swedish supermodel Marcus Schenkenberg marry some guy on German TV.

Sackboy got drunk at Munich airport!

Sackboy will report from Shanghai soon enough.

SOLUTION.

So, as we all know, I'm not making any money right now as I am unemployed. This is a problem when it comes to my shopping habits. Or rather, my so called cravings, since they are quite expensive most of the time. I think I've come up with a solution though.

Went with dad to some shipyard office on Huaihai lu today, he had to sign papers for the new vessels they've ordered from the shipyard.

Anyway, the shipyard people like buying my mom, my sister, + myself, gifts (guess why). It's usually pretty useless stuff, which is a shame, because it's sad to see stuff go to waste.. So... this time, I was determined not to let it happen.

This is what I got (well, inside the little bag..). A black cashmere cardigan from MaxMara.. for 9680 RMB. WHAAAT? That's 11000kr! And the cardigan.. it was.... not that pretty. But whatever, I couldn't believe the price tag. I had no idea they bought us gifts THAT expensive... Anyway, we went to MaxMara later on and explained the situation, and lo and behold... they let us exchange it! Without a receipt! Amaaaazing. So I went on a shopping spree in MaxMara today. Ended up paying 44 RMB. ^_^

So yeah, I'm thinking this is how I'll deal with my cravings list. Now if only they could go buy me gifts at Joyce/Plaza 66 so I can get my hands on those Alexander Wang shoes.. hihi.

And yeah, before you say anything.. I'm not being 100% serious. I know parts of this post make me sound like a spoiled little brat.. heh. I'm definitely appreciative and thankful for their gift anyway. Can't believe they would spend so much money on me. I would be happy just getting a pair of socks or whatever tbh.

Our little day of shopping ended here, I managed to take the picture just as they started yelling "NO NO NO" (meaning I wasn't actually allowed to photograph their shop). Muahaha.

One hour to go until we head up the Jin Mao tower and have dinner at Grill on 56. The fog is sort of clearing up, so I hope the view is good tonight.

SHANGHAI.

Check the reflection of Jin Mao in Shanghai World Financial Center. Insane.
Oh, by the way, it's 21.3 degrees outside! Feels like summer <3

HOT!

Just in case you thought I was kidding when I said hawaiian shirts.

CHINESE BATHHOUSE.

It's time to get naked in front of old chinese ladies again and get baby-soft skin. And wear hawaiian shirts. And eat wonton soup. Gotta love bathhouses.

SUNDAYS ARE FUNDAYS.

Here are some Crappy iPhone Photos to describe my awesome Sunday!

Sushi at Sushi Inc, they have Haiku by Hatsune rolls and they were AWESOME. We got spicy salmon rolls, butterfly rolls (tempura shrimp, snow crab, avocado, cooked shrimp, eel - !!!), and summer rolls (salmon, yellowtail, tuna, avocado). I was in sushi heaven!

Went to the arcade in Super Brand Mall and played PUMP IT UP! YES! They actually had Pump it Up! It's basically the Korean version of DDR, the dance game. I scored A's, naturally, being the pro dancer that I am. HA! I got a little sweaty though, I'll admit...

We don't have Hooters in Sweden.

So of course, I had to check it out. With a Budweiser in my hand, I was totally ready for my all American experience. It was great. Lots of older, creepy western guys ...and myself... enjoyed this fine display of dancing (?)/cheering. I have a video of it, but China + youtube = fail, China + vimeo = also fail. Unfortunate for you guys. Really. HA!

Anyway, funny thing happened... the waitress told me I was pretty and she basically asked me if I wanted to work at Hooters. hahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahaa good one sir.

20+.

FIX MY CAMERA.

My camera is broken. Or the battery is, I don't know. So you guys can expect more crappy iPhone pictures from now on, I guess. Sorry :(

Anyway, we went to Boxing Cat (and this time around it was more fun - even though some dude randomly puked on the floor right when we got there around 9) and then JZ Club last night, a jazz club here in Shanghai. Preeeetty dope. Approval stamp! Also went to check out the Shelter. Pretty cool place, I heard they're gonna have video game nights there so I might just have to check that out later!

After that, I experienced my first cab ride in Shanghai! I survived.

MY CHILDHOOD HERO.

JANUARY RANDOMS.

Missed my flight in Munich thanks to crappy snow, but it didn't seem to bother me that much.

At least it looked somewhat pretty.

Jetlag. Thank god for Super Mario Bros 3 and my Wii! Problem solved.

The view from my bed isn't too shabby.

Nor is the one from my balcony. Apparently we're moving to a bigger and newer apartment in the building with the blue lights in April. Sucks, because the view is better in this apartment..

The outdoor pool. The indoor one is in the round building above it, and the gym is right underneath.

First time I tried longan, ohmygodohmygod<3

Mama and I made our own dumplings!

Korean rice cakes called songpyeon. Have you seen Ratatouille? You know when the mean food critic Anton Ego takes a bite out of the ratatouille and then remembers his childhood etc and breaks into a huuuge smile? That's how I felt when I took a bite out of this lovely cake thing. Sooooo good and so full of memories!

More pics from the balcony, can't wait until spring/summer so I can sit outside and have a drink and listen to music..

The dreaded cubicle. It didn't take long before I realized this wasn't for me.

Best thing I learned during my week in the cubicle.

SHANGRI-LA.

Me + buffet = FAIL. I'll leave it at that.

Plate 1: Bowl of seafood/coconut/chili soup
Plate 2: Mixed salad/veggies/etc
Plate 3: SUSHI.

Plate 4: Indian-style chicken + veggies + dim sum
Plate 5: Mini wonton soup
Plate 6: MORE SUSHI!

Plate 7: Dessert. Most of them I only took a bite out of because they just tasted like cream. Eww

Plate 8: Strawberries!

I really outdid myself this time. Dad said he'd never seen me eat so much.

Weight as of this morning: 52kg
Weight at 21.46: ...

NOOOO.

Ok, so this doesn't really have anything to do with Shanghai. But I have my shallow moments, so here we go: Why oh why do I find these babies on 50% sale in MY size here in Shanghai? Why!? Comfortable and they fit perfectly too... I've wanted them forever. I get the feeling that it's meant to be. Maybe I'll go back there.

ASIA EXPATS: RULE NO 1.

So you made it to Asia, great, grats. The people are friendly, the food is great, everything is cheaper than cheap... Then comes the time to purchase shower gel. Because even though you'd blend right in with the locals, you don't want to smell bad. OK. No big deal. So, you go to the nearest supermarket and reach for a big bottle of shower gel with ...roses on it and pay up. Smelling like roses for the next few months will surely be great.

Not.

You make it as far as the shower, ready to whip a chunk of gel on your body, when suddenly, you read the small, near NON-F%&#ING-EXISTANT, text on the label, and it says: Rose whitening shower gel.

After bathing , your skin like baby's skin , smooth and whitening.

And then you remember. "Oh yeah, Asian beauty ideals SUCK. Fuuuck."
